Koschei

The deathless antagonist of East Slavic tales whose life is hidden far outside his body.

Legend File

Koschei survives by putting death somewhere else. In Russian and East Slavic wonder tales, his soul or death may be hidden in a needle, inside an egg, inside a chain of guarded creatures and containers. Defeating him is not a duel but a search through nested secrets, where immortality becomes a puzzle with bones showing through it.
