Hou Yi

The Chinese mythic archer linked to the ten suns, celestial rescue, immortality, and Chang'e.

Legend File

Hou Yi aims at catastrophe. In the famous ten-suns cycle, too much solar power burns the world, and the archer restores livable order by shooting down the excess suns. Other traditions bind him to immortality medicine and Chang'e's ascent to the moon. His myths preserve heroism with a shadow: saving the world does not guarantee a whole home.
