Tarasque

A Provençal dragon-monster tamed in legend by Saint Martha near Tarascon.

Legend File

The Tarasque is a river terror made local and processional. In legend, the monster ravages the region near Tarascon until Saint Martha subdues it through holiness rather than ordinary force. The story transforms a dragon into a civic emblem, where fear, saintly authority, and festival memory share the same body.
