Manananggal

A Filipino night monster whose upper body separates and flies in search of victims.

Legend File

The manananggal is one of the most vivid monsters in Filipino folklore. By day it may appear human, but at night its upper body separates from the lower half, grows wings, and flies out to hunt. The horror is bodily and domestic: the familiar person, the sleeping household, and the boundary of the body all become unstable.
