Dionysus
The Greek god of wine, ecstatic rites, vegetation, theatre, transformation, and dangerous release.
Legend File
Dionysus arrives like a festival that cannot be politely contained. Vine, mask, drum, theatre, frenzy, and liberation follow him, and so does danger when cities refuse what he represents. His stories make joy unstable and sacred at once: intoxication can loosen cruelty, but it can also tear apart anyone who denies the god too violently.
Source Framing
Greek and Greco-Roman religion around Dionysus/Bacchus as god of wine, ecstasy, vegetation and fruitfulness, son of Zeus and Semele, twice-born, associated with Dionysia festivals, theatre, maenads, and ecstatic rites.
