Amun

The Egyptian hidden god of Thebes who rose into imperial power as Amun-Re, patron of pharaohs.

Legend File

Amun begins as the hidden one and becomes impossible to ignore. As Thebes rises, his cult rises with it, and in the form Amun-Re he becomes a kingly, solar, imperial god. His history shows Egyptian religion in motion: local power, royal politics, syncretism, temples, and empire all gathering around a name that means hidden.
